Climate:

Brazil's very large border encompasses several different climate types. Perhaps the best known region of Brazil, the Amazon Basin, is hot and humid, and heavy rains are common for much of the year. The coastal lowlands of Brazil also tend to be hot and humid with numerous rains in the north, but get cooler with a more temperate climate further south. Rio de Janeiro can be found in this coastal region. Here the average temperature hovers around 80° F, but can reach up into the hundreds during the summer. However, relief is often found in the cooling trade winds. The highlands of Brazil's inland plateau where the capital city of Brasilia is located, mainly have a subtropical climate with mild average temperatures and seasonal rains. This region does become quite arid in the northeast though. The upland plains of the southern states are characterized by a temperate climate. Here summers can be very warm at times, and winters are cool, with snow falling on occasion.

Calling Internationally:

To call Brazil from the United States, dial the international prefix, 011; then Brazil’s country code, 55; and then the two digit area code, then dial the actual phone number.

Electricity:

Electricity in Brazil is 110 Volts or 220 Volts, alternating at 60 cycles per second. If you travel to Brazil with a device that does not accept 110 or 220 Volts at 60 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter. Outlets in Brazil generally accept a flat blade plug or two parallel flat pins with ground pin. If your plug has a different shape, you may need a plug adapter.
