Climate:

Chile, with a very long north-south orientation down the Pacific Coast of South America, and the presence of the towering Andes Mountains, offers a wide range of climates. In the north, the Atacama Desert dominates the landscape, and conditions are hot and very dry. The central region of Chile is characterized by a Mediterranean Climate. Summers are warm and dry with an average temperature of 64° F, while the winter is much wetter and mild with temperatures averaging 52° F. As you travel further south in Chile, temperatures become colder and rainfall becomes much more abundant with some areas receiving up to 200 inches annually.

Calling Internationally:

To call Chile from the United States, dial the international prefix, 011; then Chile’s country code, 56; and then the one or two digit area code, then dial the actual phone number.

Electricity:

Electricity in Chile is 220 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. If you travel to Chile with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter. Outlets in Chile generally accept a Type C, two round-pin unearthed plug or a Type L plug - two round pins with one round grounding pin in between. If your plug has a different shape, you may need a plug adapter.
