Climate:

Peru does not have a climate consistent with most countries near the equator, but it is in a tropical zone. Lima’s average temperatures are anywhere from 50° F in June to 70° F in January. The average temperature is between 48 to 54° F in the sierra, where Cuzco is located. Iquitos has an average temperature of about 90° F throughout the year, and is located in the Amazon region. The cold south-north current known as the Humboldt or Peruvian Current, can create sea mist in the coastal plain because it cools the ocean breezes. This sea mist can accumulate into about 2 inches of rain in the winter months from May to October.

In the sierra, altitude determines the climate and temperatures differ less from season to season than they do from day to night. Rain is heavy, at 75 to 125 inches annually, in the eastern rainforest where it rains nearly all the time from October through April. Also October until April is the rain season in the Andes, and snow forms from 15,500 to 19,000 ft.

El Niño can also affect the climate every four to ten year by causing weather issues around Christmastime.

Electricity:

Electricity in Peru is 220 Volts, alternating at 60 cycles per second. However, in Talara it is 110 or 220 Volts, 60 Hertz, and in Arequipa it is 220 Volts, 50 Hertz If you travel to Peru with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 60 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter. Outlets in Peru generally accept a flat blade plug or two parallel flat pins with ground pin. If your plug has a different shape, you may need a plug adapter.
